Water Intake Calculator
Estimate how much water to drink each day based on National Academies guidance, plus extra for exercise.
Daily water from drinks
85 oz/day
About 10.6 cups, or 2.5 liters.
Food provides the rest of your daily total of about 2.7 liters. Drink more in hot weather, and talk to your provider if you have heart or kidney conditions.
How it works
The National Academies set adequate daily water intake at about 3.7 liters for men and 2.7 liters for women from all sources. About 80% usually comes from drinks, plus roughly 12 oz extra per 30 minutes of exercise.
Good to know
Needs rise in heat, at altitude, and during illness. Some heart and kidney conditions call for limiting fluids, so follow your provider's guidance if that applies to you.
